Things are finally underway for the Cazenovia boys cross country team after its scheduled season opener with Christian Brothers Academy on Oct. 6 was pushed back.
With all COVID-19 concerns for CBA cast aside, the Brothers arrived last Wednesday at the Sean Googin Sports Complex along with Bishop Grimes, and the Lakers swept them.
It was far closer against CBA, who had three runners – Michael McMahon, Connor Groat and Joe McMahon – chase Jared Smith, but the Cazenovia star still prevailed in 15 minutes, 52 seconds to Michael McMahon’s 16:33.
Quinn Smith made his way to fifth place in 18:11, and Eddie Comeau, who finished sixth in 19:09, led a group of Lakers as Aidan Coffey had a time of 20:13, Garrett Lounsbury posted 20:41 and Max Fischer finished in 20:56.
Chittenango had swept Bishop Grimes the week before. Now the Bears faced Manlius-Pebble Hill and won 17-50 on the girls side while holding off the Trojans 22-37 in the boys meet.
Each of the Chittenango sides will square off with East Syracuse Minoa this week after Cazenovia has another race against Grimes.
