A fall Monday afternoon at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium served as the backdrop when the Baldwinsville girls soccer team got its opportunity to upend two-time defending Section III Class AA champion Fayetteville-Manlius.
In the lead-up to that game, the Bees had a couple of challenges, including one from Jamesville-DeWitt, who has won the last 11 sectional Class A titles.
Yet even the Red Rams had no answer for Hannah Mimas, whose early-season hot streak continued with a difference-making effort in a 2-0 shutout.
Early in the first half, it was Mimas putting it past J-D goalie Megan Baker. That proved valuable as, for the reset of the first half, B’ville kept trying to build upon this margin, only to have Baker turn them away.
So it was 1-0 going into the second half, where again Mimas found a way to get open, netting her second goal of the night. And the Bees’ defense did the rest, limiting a normally potent J-D lineup to just two shots all night.
Before this, B’ville traveled to Liverpool last Tuesday night, and the game turned into yet another showcase for Hannah Mimas as she pushed the Bees past the Warriors 3-0.
Late in a 0-0 first half, Mimas struck in the 35th minute, and did not stop there, B’ville maintaining the pressure until Mimas returned to make it 2-0 with 13:43 left and then addeda third goal six minutes later for the hat trick.
All the while, the Warriors’ defense worked hard, with goalkeeper Maggie Tifft picking up 13 saves to keep B’ville from an even larger winning margin.
Aside from the F-M game, B’ville also has a match Thursday at Cicero-North Syracuse.
