Having gone its own share of ups and downs, the Fayetteville-Manlius boys volleyball team went back on the upswing last Monday when it hosted Central Square and got a 25-12, 25-11, 25-13 sweep of the Redhawks.
Impressive from start to finish, the Hornets got 12 kills from Andersen Fuller, with Isaac Frechette stepping up to earn a season-best eight kills as Cyrus Felton had seven kills and four aces, with Devin Kapral getting four kills. Aidan Liddell earned 29 assists as Fuller and Sam Elbadaw each had six digs.
F-M then lost Friday to Rochester McQuaid 25-16, 25-23, 25-19, despite Fuller’s four kills and Kaparal’s three kills as Liddell finished with 10 assists.
Jamesville-DeWitt, who dropped a five-set thriller to F-M on Oct. 2, had then lost to Cicero-North Syracuse two nights later, though the Red Rams did nearly push the Northstars to a fifth set.
Off until last Thursday (a match with Liverpool was moved to Oct. 18), J-D then had its own match against Central Square, where it fell behind early, but rallied to beat the Redhawks in four sets.
It was Central Square pulling out the opener 25-23. J-D then won the next two sets by 25-20 and 25-18 margins, setting up a fourth set where the Redhawks got close to extending it, but the Rams prevailed again 25-22.
Through it all, Brevon Scullion earned 45 assists, his passes often going to Nick Kemmis, who got 18 kills, and Matt Cieplicki, who earned 12 kills and four blocks. Kenny Hildreth added seven kills and Josh Duby got six kills as Braedon Anderson and James Saroney had four kills apiece.
After going to the Penfield Tournament last Saturday, J-D has home matches this week against Oswego and Liverpool, while F-M would host Baldwinsville Wednesday night.
