Wet weather did a number on many high school girls tennis schedules late in the regular season, with Liverpool seeing its match with Baldwinsville moved from Sept. 26 to last Thursday afternoon, only to see the rain interrupt things again.
Before this, the Warriors faced West Genesee last Tuesday afternoon, and this long-time rivalry would turn in the Warriors’ favor as it fought its way to a 4-3 victory over the Wildcats.
WG had prevailed 5-2 when they first met Sept. 12, but here the Warriors would claim three of four doubles matches, starting with Julia Schewe and Angelica Underwood beating Katie Anson and Margaret Mello 6-0, 6-2.
Also in two sets, Diana Kozenyatko and Gabby Underwood worked past Alyssa Congel and Sophia Lowry 6-1, 6-4, and the key point came when, in three sets, Kelly Geiwitz and Megan Polhamus beat out Kara Chawgo and Isabelle Wells 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
Lea Prusinowski and Kaia Wallingford lost, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, to Madelyn Chuff and Aislinn Dow, with Crystal Morgan and Olivia Magnarelli both dropping singles points. But Sarah Watkins earned the lone point the Warriors needed when she beat Angelina Allen 6-4, 6-2.
Cicero-North Syracuse was able to play last Monday afternoon against Fulton and controlled matters from the outset on the way to defeating the Red Raiders 6-1.
In first singles, Krista Feeney set the tone for the Northstars, beating Katelyn Perkins 6-1, 6-2. Cambrie Hibbard had a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ana Marroquin-Aguilar as Sara Cartier defeated Jasmine Fauler 6-1, 6-3.
Angel Languaphay and Karly Williams won 6-3, 7-5 over Madison Hotchkiss and Leah Kingsbury in first doubles. Eve Campitello and Olivia Cerio got past Olivia Cunningham and Alexis Ingersoll 6-2, 6-2.
Though Abigail Bustin and Lauren Misco had a 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 defeat to Alexis Barth and Madelyn Delano, Sandy Lin and Emily Pilz got a point for C-NS by topping Kaitlin Cingerman and Gracie Dempsey 7-5, 6-1.
Then the Northstars made it back-to-back wins on Tuesday by blanking Syracuse East 7-0. Williams was in the closest singles match, but survived a second-set tie-breaker to top Roshika Sharma 6-0, 7-6.
Feeney and Hibbard also won in straight sets, while in doubles Cartier paired with Cerio to get a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Rosealeenna George and Afiya Rahman. Languaphay joined Campitello to beat Eh Hso and Hsar Eh Soe 7-5, 6-4 as the teams of Bustin-Misco and Pilz-Brooke Ten Brink also got straight-set decisions.
Neither win got C-NS to the Section III Class A team tournament, but Liverpool made it as the no. 4 seed in a seven-team field, having to challenge no. 5 seed Christian Brothers Academy, the winner to get top seed Fayetteville-Manlius in the semifinals.
