What’s already established is that field hockey competition within the Salt City Athletic Conference is quite close. Rare is a match that isn’t decided by a single goal or pushed into overtime.
Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool know this, and experienced it again in their first of two regular-season encounters last Tuesday night at Bragman Stadium.
Neither 60 minutes of regulation, nor 10 minutes of overtime, brought a resolution. The fast-improving Warriors displayed tremendous defense, though at the same time it could not get many opportunities against the Northstars.
So it ended 0-0, with the two sides meeting again Oct. 9 at LHS Stadium
In the meantime, C-NS was at home Saturday to face Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (Section II), and it proved a close contest again, the Northstars falling 1-0 to the Spartans as Ally Wagner finished with four saves.
C-NS will go to Baldwinsville Thursday night, looking for a regular-season sweep of the Bees, a day after hosting East Syracuse Minoa.
After a week to rest in the wake of the C-NS draw, Liverpool visits Fayetteville-Manlius Wednesday night and goes to Rome Free Academy for a noon start on Saturday.
