While awaiting another opportunity at taking down the Fayetteville-Manlius dynasty at the start of October, the Baldwinsville girls tennis team still had plenty of SCAC Metro division matches to work through before that climactic battle.
The confidence the Bees gained from nearly upending the Hornets on Sept. 13 translated into two easy wins in the week that followed, starting with last Tuesday’s 7-0 romp over Syracuse East.
Paige Tromblee, Eva Smith and Sarah Cavino did not lose a single game in any of their three singles matches as Tromblee beat Julie Nguyen, Smith topped Helen Vincent and Cavino beat Anna Nguyen.
Moving to doubles, Audrey Benton and Hannah Gould won, 6-1, 6-1, over Asmita Bhattarai and Afiya Rahman as Reagan Doan and Ella Tromblee beat Rosealeenna George and Hibatullah Shaalan by those same scores.
In yet another 6-1, 6-1 match, Karen Ekure and Nathalie Erwin worked past Emma Banuski and Sophia Holtsbery as Lauren Devine and Meredith Perine routed Hadeel AlQoronz and Roshika Sharma 6-1, 6-0.
It figured to get a lot tougher on Friday, B’ville facing the same West Genesee side it beat 5-2 on Sept. 3. Two and a half weeks later, the result was the same, with the well-balanced Bees again topping the Wildcats 5-2.
Dominating the singles play, B’ville had Brooke Tutor top Alyssa Congel 6-1, 6-2, while Paige Tromblee turned back Sophia Lowry 6-0, 6-2 and Smith blanked Angelina Allen 6-0, 6-0.
Doan and Gould lost, 6-2, 6-2, to Angelina Llanos and Katie Viau as Devine and Blake Tripodi had a 7-6, 6-4 defeat to Madelyn Chuff and Isabelle Wells.
But the Bees won the other two doubles points thanks to Benton and Ella Tromblee, who dismissed Katie Anson and Margaret Mello 6-3, 6-0, and Cavino pairing with Perine to turn back Kara Chawgo and Aislinn Dow 7-6,6 -1.
Then B’ville would visit Cicero-North Syracuse on Tuesday and host Liverpool on Thursday afternoon, the lead-ups to the Oct. 1 rematch with F-M.
