A week from now, the Baldwinsville boys golf team will return to Radisson Greens, intent on recapturing the Section III Class AA championship.
The Bees will do so with far more confidence thanks to its 188-191 victory over previously undefeated Fayetteville-Manlius Green last Wednesday afternoon at Timber Banks.
These teams had first met Aug. 29 at Woodcrest, and F-M Green prevailed 186-195, with both teams on relatively even terms except for the 33 scored by the Hornets’ Enzo Abruzzese.
Victor Ianno had scored 36 to lead the Bees, followed by 39s from Aidan Farmer and Alex Pompo. Tanner Glavin had a 40 and Anthony Petragnani added a 41 as, for F-M, Adam Butch had a37, with Velton Perry adding a 38 and 39s from Seth Bailey, Matt LaCombe and Mike Millimaci.
. Having not lost since, the Hornets brought its deep roster to the rematch at Timber Banks, where the Bees would counter with its own well-balanced lineup.
In the race for individual honors, Farmer shot an even-par 36, which Butch and Matt LaCombe, would match. Yet the Hornets would only have one other sub-40 total, a 39 from Heyman, and B’ville pounced.
Pompo shot 37, with Nate MacGregor stepping up for his best performance of the fall, a 38 to match the total of Glavin, and Petragnani clinching the win with a 39.
Earlier in the week, B’ville had displayed this similar quality in a match against Liverpool, prevailing 188-204 over the Warriors as Petragnani went to the forefront with a 35. Glavin and Billy Guild both shot 38, with Pompo getting a 40 as Trey Ordway stepped up, his 42 matching Ianno.
In the last week of the regular season, B’ville would meet F-M’s White team at Woodcrest on Wednesday after trying to avenge an earlier defeat to Cicero-North Syracuse Blue on Monday.
