An impressive start to the season for the Marcellus boys soccer team continued last Monday when it bashed Solvay 10-0 in the wake of a sweep of the previous weekend’s Cicero-North Syracuse Optimist Tournament.
To help the Mustangs get to double digits, three different players – Dakota Baker, Ryan Lundrigan and Matt Kershaw – scored twice, with Tristan Jarvi, Marcelo Suarez, Brett Beal and Ben Carranti getting one goal apiece.
In Thursday’s 4-0 win over Phoenix, the Mustangs spread its production around. Four different players – Lundrigan, Jarvi, Kershaw and Mike Stasyuk – earned the four goals, two in each half, as Baker got a pair of assists.
Back on Tuesday, West Genesee earned a big win of its own in the SCAC Metro division, going to Liverpool and proving strong in all phases of the game to defeat the Warriors 2-0.
Traditionally, Liverpool has maintained control of this league rivalry, but here the Wildcats worked through a scoreless first half before Jadin Lyle and Jacob Sachar both converted after intermission. WG’s defense did the rest, Josh Farrell stopping all eight shots he faced.
It didn’t carry over as WG lost a 4-3 thriller to Corcoran on Thursday night. Josh Rimualdo’s goal in the 23rd minute got the Wildcats in front, but the Cougars tied it a minute late and went up before Tom Shields converted a penalty kick with 22 seconds left in the half.
Again Corcoran went in front, 3-2, in the second half and again WG tied it when Jesper Behr found the net with 6:26 to play. Just when it looked headed for overtime, though, the Cougars netted a last-minute goal to pull it out.
Jordan-Elbridge, who won a tournament at Port Byron/Union Springs the weekend before, followed up last Thursday by defeating the Homer Trojans by a score of 4-2.
The Eagles gained a 2-1 edge by halftime and doubled that margin thanks to a pair of goals by Michael Meyer. Owen Barrigar and Brayam Gonzalez scored, too, with assists going to Cole Mullen and Richard Hill.
Bishop Ludden has found some fine early-season form, too, and were dominant in last Wednesday’s game at Manlius-Pebble Hill, not letting up until it had picked up a 5-0 victory over the Trojans.
It was only 1-0 at halftime, but the Gaelic Knights ran away late thanks to Charlie Colella and Michael Gaughan as Colella recorded a three-goal hat trick, plus an assist, while Gaughan had the other two goals. Rob Sexton also had an assist.
Solvay had a 4-1 defeat to Christian Brothers Academy last Thursday night. Jason Knickerbocker had the Bearcats’ lone goal in the second half, assisted by Achuil Achuil as Jonathan Gonzalez Perez stopped 22 of the 26 shots he faced.
