No one quite knows how much longer the Liverpool boys golf team will be able to compete on its current home course.
But if the Liverpool Country Club ends up a casualty of big business plans elsewhere, at least the Warriors were able to beat its biggest rival at home one last time.
Liverpool defeated Cicero-North Syracuse Blue 201-204 last Thursday afternoon at LCC, the individual race featuring Spencer Baum shooting a 34, two ahead of the 36 from the Northstars’ Jake Nardozza.
Dylan Husted got a 38 for the Warriors, helped by a 41 from Connor Boland, a 42 from Dante Cassella and a 46 from Kaeden Hacker. On C-NS Blue’s side, Brian Pellegrino shot a 41, with D.J. Villnave and Austin Alberici each shooting 42.
Before this, C-NS Blue had an impressive showing at the start of last week, toppling defending Section III Class AA champion West Genesee 200-219 with the five low individual rounds of the match.
Ryan Sisco’s 37 was one clear of the 38 from Jake Nardozza. Darin Townsend had a 41, with Sean Lawler and Sam Thompson each shooting 42. They all were ahead of the Wildcats’ Ryan Joyce, who had a 43 as four other WG players shot 44.
As for Liverpool, it would test first-place Fayetteville-Manlius Green last Tuesday afternoon, and like everyone else so far this season the Warriors could not catch the Hornets, taking a 186-208 defeat.
Baum and Husted both shot 39 for Liverpool, with Boland getting a 41 and Cassella adding a 42. Hacker added a 47 as all five F-M Green players shot under 40, with Mike Milliamci’s 35 leading that effort.
C-NS Green had its own match against F-M Green on Thursday and lost, 186-210, with Riley Rumble and Nick Wentworth each shooting a 40, but that trailed six different Hornets golfers, led by the 36s from Velton Perry and Andrew Heyman.
Behind Rumble and Wentworth, Cullen Scott posted a 42, with Brody Kennedy getting a 44 and Devin Kellogg shooting 47. Drew Matyasik had a 51 and Joe DeGroat added a 52.
