Having made it to May without a defeat, the Jamesville-DeWitt softball team aimed to continue that strong play against opponents inside and outside the SCAC Empire division.
The Red Rams were again dominant in last Monday’s game at Central Square, Shayna Myshrall tossing a six-inning no-hitter as J-D pounded the Redhawks 16-0.
Over those six innings, Myshrall earned six strikeouts without surrendering a walk. She also continued her tear at the plate with a home run, double and single that led to five RBIs.
It was only 1-0 when J-D struck for four runs in the top of the fourth inning, followed by a fifth inning where it batted around and crossed the plate eight times.
Aside from Myshrall, Paige Keeler produced a double and three RBIs, with Miriam Zoghby’s pair of hits leading to her own three-RBI effort. Andrea Sumida had three hits and scored three runs as she and Madi Ancone each had one RBI.
And J-D didn’t cool off when it returned home to face Oswego a day later, again easily reaching double digits on the scoreboard in a 14-1 romp of the Buccaneers.
This time it was Katie White going deep, her home run part of an effort where she and Sumida both had three RBIs and the Rams scored in every single inning.
Ancone doubled and drove in two runs, with Keeler, Zoghby and Katie Dorazio each getting one RBI. Myshrall managed just one hit, a double, but pitched quite well, amassing 12 strikeouts and holding the Bucs to two hits.
Only on Saturday, in J-D’s 10th game of the season, did it finally take a defeat, falling 3-1 to Victor (Section V) in the second part of a two-game tournament hosted by the Blue Devils.
Victor managed single runs off Myshrall in the third, fifth and sixth innings, and kept the Rams off the board until the top of the seventh. Yet even that followed a 6-2 victory over Williamsville North (Section VI) that brought J-D’s win streak to nine.
At Carrier Park last Monday, East Syracuse Minoa hosted Auburn and pulled out a tense 3-2 decision over the Maroons.
Gillianne McCarthy, Gianna Quonce and Natalie Quonce each drove in runs as ESM built a 3-0 lead through three innings, and for the most part Shaina Brilbeck contained Auburn, pitching six shutout innings while striking out five.
Yet the Maroons rallied in the top of the seventh, putting across a pair of runs, scored by Victoria Fiduccia and MiKayla Titus, before Brilbeck was able to record the final out.
On Friday, ESM lost, 7-4, to Central Square, twice rallying from two-run deficits to tie it, only to have the Redhawks net three runs in the top of the seventh inning to move ahead for good.
Lauren Schueur, with her five RBIs, carried Central Square’s attack, helping to overcome an ESM effort that included a single, triple and two RBIs from Morgan Ransom as Brilbeck doubled in a run and Nataile Quonce added an RBI.
