When faced up against the top boys lacrosse programs in Central New York on its home turf at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium, Baldwinsville has, for the most part, brought its best performances.
That was true in the sunshine April 13 when the Bees romped past Fayetteville-Manlius 16-5, and was the case again in the rain last Tuesday night when West Genesee arrived and B’ville put them away in similar fashion, prevailing by a score of 16-6.
In this instance, there was no payback of an earlier defeat, as it was against F-M. West Genesee, now under the direction of head coach Shaun Smith after Mike Messere’s retirement, had started the season 2-2, but had won three in a row the week before arriving at B’ville.
Whether it was that win streak or just the sight of a long-time rival clad in blue and gold, the Bees were ready for it, on both ends, dominating the first quarter and bolting out to a 4-0 lead.
But it didn’t end there, B’ville continuing to produce scoring chances and converting them on a regular basis, not letting up until it led 12-3 at the end of the third quarter, the game well out of reach.
The trio of Adam Davis, Spencer Wirtheim and Austin Bolton led the attack, Davis scoring four times as Wirtheim piled up three goals and three assists and Bolton also got three goals.
Brendan Wilcox had two goals and one assist, with Mike Tangredi getting two assists. Noah Ravas, Braden Lynch, Quinn Peters and Garrett Petrelli notched single goals as the defense clamped down, Dan Stehle recording eight saves.
This was the only game the state Class A no. 19-ranked Bees played last week, and it would take a 7-3 record into Tuesday’s home battle with Syracuse before a trip to Liverpool and a chance to avenge an April 16 defeat to the Warriors.
