At least in the early going, the Chittenango girls volleyball team is replicating its 2017-18 championship blitz.
The Bears paid a visit to Christian Brothers Academy last Monday night, and what appeared to be the first serious test of the winter instead turned into another three-set sweep.
A 25-9 romp by Chittenango in the first set was followed by 25-18 wins in each of the next two sets over the Brothers as Savannah Penoyer and Tyla Cutrie earned 12 kills apiece, Penoyer adding five aces and Cutrie three aces.
Shelby Maring finished with 12 assists, three aces, three kills and two digs. Bayla Cutrie had five kills and five assists, with Brenna Stanton earning six digs. Natalie Cowburn had five assists and two aces. Chloe Foran and Chelsea Lamphere had two kills apiece.
Not until Friday did the Bears play again, hosting Cato-Meridian and roaring past the Blue Devils 25-7 in each of the first two sets and 25-16 in the third set for another lopsided victory.
Bayla Cutrie had seven aces to go with her nine assists, Sydney Pellman adding five aces. Penoyer managed four aces as Maring and Cowburn each earned three aces.
