Though it’s only had a couple of weeks of matches, the Fayetteville-Manlius girls tennis team has already rampaged through the entire Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division.
The Hornets, already with shutouts of Baldwinsville and Cicero-North Syracuse in the books, did the same to Liverpool last Tuesday afternoon, the 7-0 romp done in straight sets.
As Katerina Atallah was blanking Julia Schewe 6-0, 6-0 and Phoebe Wang was handling Kelly Geiwitz 6-1, 6-0, Anna Manta had to go a bit longer in her singles match with Angelica Underwood, but still won 6-2, 6-3.
Rachel Liu and Keara Polovick won, 6-2, 6-3, over Diana Kozenyatko and Gabby Underwood, with Ava Abruzzese and Samhitha Adavikolanu using those same scores to top Erica Gibbs and Natalie Kidd.
Maddy Drapeau and Cassie Wojtasiewicz got past Eleni Ioannidis and Cindy Tran 6-1, 6-0, with Alexis Ahn and Martha Welker winning a 6-0, 6-2 match over Aryanna Davila and Crystal Morgans.
These same teams met again on Thursday, with the same result, a 7-0 F-M victory where Wang beat Morgans 6-0, 6-1 in singles, but Atallah battled with Schewe in a 6-3, 6-4 win and Manta held off Angelica Underwood 6-4, 7-5.
One of the doubles matches even went to three sets, Liu and Polovick holding off Kozenyatko and Gabby Underwood 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 as the teams of Ahn-Welker, Drapeau-Wojtasiewicz and Abruzzese-Adavikolanu needing just two sets each.
Also undefeated, Christian Brothers Academy stepped up against a strong opponent last Tuesday afternoon when it faced Cazenovia and wiped out the Lakers 7-0.
Grace Glowaki blanked Abby Burrell 6-0, 6-0, with Gieselle Vlassis handling Alex Galle, 6-0, 6-1. Grace DelPino was pushed in the first set, yet still rolled past Laura Connor 7-5, 6-2.
In the closest of the four doubles matches, Grace Catalano and Grace Coyne turned back Charley Harris and Kaitlyn Puffer 6-3, 6-2. Calista Albring and Aubrey Mills won, 6-3, 6-1, over Emma Dolbear and Nina Royer as the teams of Mary Kilmartin-Isabella Mead and Annie Kilmartin-Maddie Tallman lost just two games in four total sets.
It continued for CBA in Wednesday’s 7-0 romp over Homer, even with Glowaki pushed in a 6-4, 6-3 singles win over Catarina Kurman as Vlassis worked past Marlena Kruman 6-0, 6-1 and Albring handled Ally Hammond 6-2, 6-2.
To lead the doubles sweep, Coyne and DelPino beat Molly Burhans and Ellis Han 6-2, 6-2. Mead and Mary Kilmartin handled Kaitlyn Clune and Sienna Haskins 6-1, 6-1.
CBA continued to roll in Friday’s 7-0 shutout of Chittenango, with Vlassis, Glowaki and Albring dropping just one game in six sets of singles play and, in doubles, the teams of Coyne-DelPino, Catalano-Mills, Mead-Mary Kilmartin and Tallman-Annie Kilmartin also surrendering just a single game in their lopsided wins.
Manlius-Pebble Hill lost last Tuesday to Marcellus 5-2, both points coming in singles, where Parmees Fazelli had blanked Megan Mitchell 6-0, 6-0 as Genevieve Morrow handled Colleen Marsh 6-0, 6-2.
However, the Trojans had to forfeit the other singles point and got swept in doubles, with Sara Antonevich and Ava Benedict unable to hold on to their lead in a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 loss to Kathleen DeMarie and Elaina Mahoney, the only one of those matches to go to three sets.
In another 5-2 defeat on Friday to Skaneateles, MPH had Fazeli beat Rachael Feeney 6-1, 6-1 as Morrow, one game from getting swept, rallied past Hope Allyn 6-7, 7-6, 10-4, but the Lakers took all four doubles matches, the closest of them where Eva Englich and Eden Hildebrandt fell to Riley Fouts and Bridget Neumann 7-6, 4-6, 12-10.
