A fierce race for regular-season boys golf honors in the Salt City Athletic Conference Metro division is well underway, with Cicero-North Syracuse Blue close with West Genesee, Fayetteville-Manlius and Baldwinsville.
Ironically, the only match C-NS Blue had this week was against C-NS Green, since its crucial match against F-M last Monday was rained out and moved to this Thursday afternoon.
C-NS Blue won this match 184-209, with each of its top golfers at or near par, led by Jake Nardozza, who posted a 35 for nine holes to beat out Andrew Brunozzi’s 36. Pat Cuddy and Ryan Sisco tied for third, each shooting 37, while Austin Alberici got a 39.
On the C-NS Green side, Ethan Shallcross finished with a 41, and four others – Brody Kennedy, Sean Lawler, D.J. Villnave and Steve Filapello – shot equal totals of 42.
Liverpool may not have kept pace with the top four, but it’s still quite good in top form, which it showed last Wednesday when it went to Northern Pines and handled C-NS Green 182-202.
Dylan Husted supplanted Spencer Baum for a day as Husted’s two-under-par 34 led the Warriors, though Baum still shot 35.
Completing a top-four Liverpool sweep, Sam Sgroi and Pat Langlois each posted 37, and Tyler Leatherwood added a 39 to tie for fifth place.
For C-NS Green, Kennedy, Lawler and Carter Costello each shot 39, with Shallcross contributing a 42 as Sam Thompson finished with a 43.
A day later, Liverpool defeated Syracuse 190-208, and Husted continued his strong play, shooting 34 at Liverpool Country Club as Langlois finished second with a season-best 35.
Baum gained third place with a 38, ahead of Syracuse’s Josh Williams (38), Jon Kinane and Liam Murphy (41 each), while Sgroi posted a 41 of his own and Leatherwood, with a 44, rounded out the scoring column.
