Another season is underway for the Skaneateles girls tennis team, who knows that it has a good chance of contending for top honors in the Onondaga High School League Liberty National division.
And the Lakers made a strong first statement last Monday with a 6-1 romp over Phoenix, only dropping a point in first singles when Rachael Feeney lost, 6-0, 7-5, to the Firebirds’ Brielle DeRoberts.
The other two singles points went to Skaneateles, though, as Hope Allyn put away Gianna DeRoberts 6-1, 7-6 and Isabella Kroon got a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Ashley Kenner-Carbonaro.
Phoenix had to forfeit two of the doubles matches, so the teams of Marin Doyle-Bridget Neumann and Gracie Lee-Caroline Raymond did not have to play.
However, Neumann did pair with Riley Fouts to put away Ella Heckert and Morgan Kosakowski 6-2, 6-2, just as Ella Danforth and Emma Miller dominated a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mia Graham and Courtney Worden.
Skaneateles proved even better in Wednesday’s match against Jordan-Elbridge, claiming all the points as it blanked the Eagles 7-0.
Feeney, in first singles, got past Meghan Whalen 6-1, 6-0, just as Allyn beat Anisa Bort 6-2, 6-2 and Kroon prevailed, 6-0, 6-1, over Bella DeCola.
Fouts and Neumann paired up to shut out Maddie Green and Maria LaFleur 6-0, 6-0, with Lee and Doyle working together to beat Hayley Holland and Katelyn Precourt by those same scores.
Elsewhere in doubles, Danforth and Miller won, 6-2, 6-0, over Delaney Dunham and Megan Hatt, with Sophia Sorderberg and Olivia Walker getting their own 6-2, 6-0 win over Skylar Crysler and Marissa Reith.
