To its immense relief, the Baldwinsville girls tennis team did not have to take to the court for its first match of the 2018 season until the blazing heat early last week subsided.
It was quite seasonal by Thursday, when the Bees faced Cicero-North Syracuse and dropped just a single point on the way to a 6-1 victory over the Northstars.
B’ville swept all four of the doubles matches, with only one of them going to three sets. Lauren Devine and Hanna Manning won for the Bees, outlasting C-NS’s Anna Dwyer and Miranda Szwej 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Reagan Doan and Ella Tromblee handled Bri Bonilla and Sara Cartier 6-2, 6-4, with Sarah Cavino and Isabelle Thomas rolling past Alexa Kulak and Emily Pilz 6-0, 6-2. Katrina Hays-Peterson and McKenna Murphy won, 6-1, 6-1, over Teagan Brown and Tina Chen.
Up in singles, the Bees’ Hannah Gould had a 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 defeat to Jenna Wilson, but in first singles Paige Tromblee dispatched Krista Feeney 6-3, 6-1 as Audrey Benton won over Lexi Hnatiw 6-4, 6-0.
It would get a lot tougher for B’ville this week as, over a four-day span, it was set to host Liverpool before back-to-back trips to West Genesee and Fayetteville-Manlius.
