Each of the Baldwinsville track and field teams braved chilly temperatures and tight competition during a high-profile three-sided meet against Cicero-North Syracuse and West Genesee last Wednesday afternoon at Pelcher-Arcaro Stadium.
And the boys Bees were triumphant, rebounding from its April 11 loss to Liverpool by sweeping the meet, taking out the Northstars 83-67 while also pulling away to beat the Wildcats 101-49.
B’ville won two of the three boys relay races. As a starting point, Kieran Sheridan, Michael Lawrence, Jon Formoza and Tim Demjanenko claimed the 4×800 in eight minutes, 30.33 seconds, with Lawrence and Sheridan joining Garrett Selover and Evan DeParro to take the 4×400 in 3:37.49.
In a Bees sweep of distance races, Ben Timmons claimed the mile in 4:41.60 and won the 3,200-meter run in 10:01.21. Sheridan went 51.24 seconds to win the 400-meter dash, while Sam Kellner was victorious at 800 meters in 2:04.90.
When points were needed in field events, Cameron Majchrzak got them, unleashing a top shot put toss of 43 feet 5 inches and a first-place discus throw of 121’9”. Nate Jaquint cleared 6 feet in the high jump, with Jaeho Lee topping 11 feet in the pole vault.
Led by Adrianna Straughter, and Lauren Addario, the B’ville girls pulled out a split of its tight contest with West Genesee and C-NS, beating the Wildcats 74-66, while taking a 72-69 defeat to the Northstars.
Straughter claimed three events, tearing to first place in the 100-meter hurdles in 16.72 seconds. In the long jump, Straughter gained first place with a leap of 16 feet 2 inches as she cleared 4’10” to prevail in the high jump.
As for Addario, she claimed two sprints, beating the field in the 100-meter dash in 13.33 seconds and adding a top time of 28.07 seconds in the 200-meter dash.
B’ville also won two other field events, seeing Maya Hewitt clear 7feet in the pole vault as Danielle Marsell was first in the shot put with a toss of 28’1”.
From there, both B’ville sides traveled to the Rochester area for Saturday’s Rush-Henrietta Relays, where the girls Bees finished third in a 13-team field with 65 points, behind only the host Royal Comets and Penfield..
Addario won the girls individual triple jump with a top effort of 35’6”, with Justus Holden-Betts won the 1,500-meter run as she finished in 4:58.49, the only timeunder five minutes.
Straughter went 16’6” in the long jump for second place and matched Wayne’s Cora Blunden as they both cleared 5 feet to top the standings in the high jump. Marsell was third in the discus with a throw of 89’10” and seventh in the shot put.
Though the B’ville boys were fifth in the team standings, it did shatter the meet record in the 4×800, where Sheridan, Timmons, Kellner and Connor McManus went 8:18.93 to easily top the old mark of 8:34.84 Brockport set in 2016.
Individually, Jaquint cleared 6’2” in the high jump to match Brockport’s Amire Odey as they both broke the meet record of 6’1” Odey set one year earlier.
Jaquint also was second in the long jump with 18’8” as Nick Kruger went 38’4 ½” in the triple jump for another second-place finish. Matt Komuda was third in the pole vault, clearing 11 feet, while Majchrzak was fifth in the shot put (41’11 ½”) and discus (109’3”).
