At the same Bragman Stadium venue where some of them hope to return in early June for an appearance in the state championship meet, area high school track and field teams took part in last Saturday’s Cicero-North Syracuse Relays.
West Genesee had a particularly good meet, finishing third to C-NS and Rush-Henrietta in both divisions. The girls Wildcats picked up 58.5 points and the boys had 52.5 points.
In the girls 1,500-meter run, WG’s Carly Benson won the individual race in four minutes, 47.47 seconds to edge South Lewis’ Hail Ielfield (4:48.21) and, with Emily Young third in 4:51.05, the Wildcats took the team event as Benson, Young, Natalie Buckhout and Hannah Craybas had a total time of 20:06.86.
Then WG won the 4×400 relay as Katie Graziano, Mikeayla DeJesus, Phoebe Anderson and Abby Kuppinger went 4:29.77 to beat the field by more than six seconds. Westhill was fifth in 4:49.19.
Not conent with that, the Wildcats had Benson and Young return for the 1,600 sprint medley, joining Kuppinger and Kelsey Fox to post 4:24.11 and beat C-NS (4:28.25) by more than four seconds for that top spot.
Olivia Becker and Madalyn Benson were second (2:33.41) to South Lewis (2:32.39) in the 400-meter hurdles. DeJesus, Buckhout, Mia Mitchell and Faith Knox were third in the 4×800 relay in 10:35.23.
Fox and Amina Mambambu were second in the long jump with total leaps of 30 feet ½ inch. Etana Davis and Rosemary Carmona were fifth in the shot put, with Davis and Julia Logana sixth in the discus.
Over on the boys side, WG would win the shot put when Chris McAfee and Cole Nowark got second and third, respectively, in the individual standings, and their throws of 88’1” edged Rush-Henrietta’s second-place 87’5”
McAfee and Nowark returned for the discus, where their throws of 224 feet were second to Rush-Henrietta’s 275’1”
Sean Byrnes, Matt Bartolotta, Nate Couse and Jack Richards were third in the mile relay in 19:36.39. Griffin Dombroske, Cameron Mitchell, Ryan Allen and David Pinker were third in the 4×400 in 3:43.67.
Dombroske unleashed a triple jump of 39’11” and was second in the team event with Pinker with total leaps of 76’8”, while Dombroske paired with Frank DePalma to finish third in the long jump, going 37 feet with their best leaps. The Wildcats were fourth in the sprint medley in 3:56.91 and fifth (9:06.87) in the 4×800.
Westhill was fourth in the girls meet with 39 points, going 1-2 in the pole vault as Noelle Coolican cleared 9’6” and Ashley Heffernan topped 9 feet, with Abby Feyerabend and Emily O’Reilly third in the high jump with total clearances of 8’9”, while WG was fifth.
Alyssa Holstein and Lauren Marshall were second (33.99 seconds) to Rush-Henrietta (32.03) in the 100-meter hurdles, with WG sixth. In the 400 hurdles, Allyssa and Lauren Holstein paired up to finish fifth.
The Warriors added a fourth-place finish in the 4×100 in 54.05 seconds, beating out WG (54.35) in sixth place as Westhill also got fourth place (10:58.60) in the 4×800, fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the long jump.
The boys Warriors beat WG in the triple jump as Evan Watt topped all individuals with 40’8” and Ben Eassa went 39’3” so that their combined distance of 70’11” gave Westhill a victory.
Evan Ballard and Charlie Doebert get fourth place in the discus with combined throws of 205’4”. Weshill was also sixth in the mile relay and shot put.
Jordan-Elbridge earned 31 points to take sixth place in the boys side ahead of Westhill’s 23.7 points. Eight of the points came from Nate Jennings and Nate Williams clearing 18’6” in the pole vault between them, second to Rush-Henrietta’s 19’6”.
Marion Quigley, paired with Ryan Chiaramonte, were second in the 400 hurdles in 2:06.31, and that same Eagles duo rose to third place in the 110 high hurdles with total times of 35.11 seconds.
Elsewhere, Quigley and Jeremiah Sparks were third in the high jump, with total clearances of 10’9” as Westhill tied for fourth. J-E took fifth place in the 4×100 in 47.10, ahead of WG’s sixth-place clocking of 47.38 seconds, with the Wildcats also sixth in the 400 hurdles.
