Dry weather lasted long enough on Friday for the Baldwinsville boys tennis team to open its 2018 season – and the Bees didn’t waste that opportunity.
Going up against its neighbors from Liverpool, B’ville was pushed to three sets three different times, yet won all of them on the way to a 7-0 shutout of the Warriors.
Nick Licciardello made quite a comeback in third singles, rallying past Aaron Alejo 5-7, 6-3, 6-3. The other singles matches went just two sets as Antonio Marsallo routed Owen Dann 6-1, 6-0 and Alex Shaban handled Caleb Munski 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles, Sam Damato and Anthony Pompo were one game from defeat, yet escaped in a second-set tie-breaker and went on to defeat Filipo Valenti and Ben White 4-6, 7-6, 6-2.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Rappard and Adam Van Apledoorn outlasted Caleb Arnold 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. In two sets, Diego Aguirre and Max Funicello topped Andrew Johnson and Jeff Noll 6-0, 7-6 as Funicello and Hunter Dukat beat Brayden Cabry and Jon Kline 6-0, 6-2.
Among the matches B’ville has scheduled for this week is a duel with Fayetteville-Manlius at home on Thursday afternoon.
