It hasn’t taken long for each of the Skaneateles track and field teams to dash to the top of the Onondaga High School League Liberty National division standings.
The Lakers saw a shuffle in its schedule due to bad early-April weather, but did compete last Wednesday and swept through hosts Altmar-Parish-Williamstown, along with Institute of Technology Central.
In the girls event, Skaneateles prevailed 102-35 over APW and 108-28 over ITC, getting three wins from Mia Grasso, who cleared 4 feet 8 inches in the high jump while also taking the 200-meter dash in 26.4 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 1:01 flat.
Brady Iles also was part of three victories, claiming the 100-meter hurdles (17.4 seconds) and 400-meter hurdles (1:12.1) on her own while pairing with Melissa Biver, Maddie Peterson and Graeson Landsberg to take the 4×400 relay in 4:43.3.
Natalie Condon ran 1,500 meters in 5:29.4 as Georgia McSwain beat the field in the 3,000-meter run in 12:12.8. Condon, Hope Cross-Jaya, Liliana Arias and Katie Olsen went 11:54.6 to finish first in the 4×800 relay.
Lyda Buck topped 7’6” in the pole vault as Sharia Dart won the shot put with 27’6” and Eva Vitsaxaki went 14’6 ¾” for first place in the long jump. To complete the Lakers’ relay sweep, Vitsaxaki, Peterson, Landsberg and Emme Conan took the 4×100 in 53.4 seconds.
As that went on, the Skaneateles boys track team claimed a close 69.5-64.5 decision over ITC while rolling past APW 103-28, with Caleb Bender running the mile in 4:58.9 and then taking the 3,200-meter run in 11:33.4.
Joe Morris, by claiming the 800 in 2:17.9, completed a Lakers sweep of the distance events, also pairing with Nick Paciorek, Sam McClintic and Connor Gell to take the 4×800 in 10:10.6. Paciorek was first in the 400 hurdles in 1:03.8.
Brahm Malcolm chimed in by winning the 110 high hurdles in 15.7 seconds. And though ITC won most of the field events, Nicola Kunz gave Skaneateles a win in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet as Gell, Levi Carvalho, Nate Azzam and Ryan Wilcox won the 4×400 in 4:10.4.
As part of Saturday’s Cicero-North Syracuse Relays, Skaneateles had its girls 1,500 relay team of Condon, McSwain, Cross-Jaya and Arias finish sixth in 22:53.40, earning the Lakers’ lone point of that meet.
