At Bragman Stadium Tuesday night, the Cicero-North Syracuse and Liverpool boys lacrosse teams will meet for the first time this spring, but arrive at the game from different perspectives.
The Warriors were supposed to play three times last week, but only got one game in the books, thwarted by the snow that returned and caused more havoc with schedules in all spring sports.
It proved a In a tough, wet and cold battle with Rochester Aquinas last Tuesday night, with Liverpool doing just enough to defeat the Little Irish 7-6.
With both defenses in good form, the first half was close and low-scoring, ending in a 3-3 tie. The Warriors hen went in front for good in the third quarter, outscoring Aquinas 3-1 in that frame.
Liverpool needed each of the eight saves from goalie Cole Zaferakis. Ryan McGowan did produce two goals and two assists as Ben Root also found the net twice. Cabry Hildmann had one goal and one assist as Lukas McIlroy and Jacob Fahey gained the other goals.
The mid-week snowstorm forced many postponements of area lacrosse games, including Liverpool’s visit to Rome Free Academy on Thursday night.
And though it had mostly cleared up by the time the Warriors were supposed to visit Watertown on Saturday, the field conditions up north proved too much to overcome and, again, there was a postponement.
Meanwhile, C-NS got back on the field that same Saturday with a short trip to Spartan Stadium to face defending Section III Class B champion East Syracuse Minoa, which proved rough.
The Northstars lost, 13-8, to the Spartans, this despite leading early. But that 3-2 advantage disappeared as ESM went in front by halftime and kept adding to that margin in the last two periods.
Mainly, C-NS’s problem was that it never developed a scoring option beyond Josh Pickard, who had four goals and one assist. Joel Firth had a goal and two assists as Justin Griffith, Jason Meigs and Chase Casler had the other goals and Jon Abbott joined Griffith in the assist column.
Meanwhile, the Spartans have five different players score multiple times. Tim Crouse led with a three-goal hat trick, helped by Gavin Houghtaling, Lance Madonna, Dan Boland and Jackson Plumb, who had two goals apiece.
