The Baldwinsville wrestling team was coming off a strong showing in the Jan. 14 Cazenovia Invitational where Luke Eberl earned Most Outstanding Wrestler honors for his pin of Homer’s Hunter O’Gorman in the 195-pound championship bout.
Three nights later, the Bees hosted Cicero-North Syracuse, and fought the Northstars to a near-standstill in the first 12 bouts before C-NS claimed the last three bouts in a 47-31 defeat.
Eberl got the Bees on the board in the third bout by edging Jack McDonald 5-3 before a pair of pins in the heavyweight bouts. Gunnar Hunt (220 pounds) finished off Troyan Jones in 71 seconds and Billy Loadwick (285 pounds) took just 33 seconds to pin Brady Ramos.
After a pair of C-NS pins, the two sides swapped winning efforts. At 113 pounds, Tyler Schardt pulled away from Dan Sweeney 14-3, while Jacob Cavallo (126 pounds) pinned Jacob Montminy early in the second period.
In between, a 120-pound classic saw Zach Hahn take an 8-7 defeat to Nathan Osborne, but the Bees stayed close as Schardt and Cavallo won, along with Nate Hahn, who at 138 pounds took 3:03 to pin Josh Brighton.
So B’ville only trailed 33-31 with three bouts left, but C-NS swept them with a pin, technical fall and, at 145 pounds, Isiah Wahdan keeping the Bees’ Jon Formoza off the board in a 5-0 decision.
The Bees would visit Canastota and Fayetteville-Manlius this week for its last two matches of the regular season before going to West Genesee Feb. 3 for the Section III Class AA tournament.
