For each of the bowling teams at West Genesee, the move to the Salt City Athletic Conference has created some changes for the 2017-18 season.
Chief among those changes was a new slate of opponents that used to compete in the Onondaga High School League Freedom division, including Cortland, who took on the Wildcats in last Tuesday’s season opener at Cort Lanes.
To help WG beat the Purple Tigers 2-1 in the boys match, Ben Conroy needed a 223 game to reach a 599 series as Jon Zollo got a 222 game in his 566 set. Conor Matthewson’s 557 series included a 196 game as Cortland had twin 566 series from Brian Ngo and Michael Davis.
The girls match had WG fall to Cortland by that same 2-1margin, with Kaley Moore shooting a 476 series that included a high game of 183.
Maddy Lux, with a 476 series (175 high game), was close behind as Gina Neri added a 439 series. For the Purple Tigers, Taylor Cullip (524 series) and Calista VanEpps (508 series) had the top efforts.
WG would win both sides of Thursday’s match against Oswego at Lighthouse Lanes.
The boys Wildcats shut out the Buccaneers 3-0, Conroy steadily working his way to a 587 series (215 high game) ahead of Zollo, whose 199 game led to a 545 set. Owen Bates added a 510 series as Matthewson got a three-game total of 493.
In the 2-1 girls match, WG held on with four series of 400 or better to overcome the 548 set from Oswego’s Kaitlyn Grant. Neri had a 485 series (179 high game), with Katie Drogo getting a 460 set. Emily Shields added a 418 series and Moore had a three-game total of 407.
On Tuesday, WG visits Central Square, followed by a Thursday home match against Auburn.
