It was the last week of league competition for several area cross country teams, combined with invitational meets held inside and outside Central New York.
Marcellus had little trouble against Phoenix, sweeping that meet as it beat the Firebirds 16-53 on the boys side and 16-42 on the girls side.
The boys state Class C no. 13-ranked Mustangs featured Riley Burns winning in 16:32, four second ahead of Joe Riccardi’s 16:36 as Ethan Mosure was third in 16:39 and Charles Donovan (16:39) took fourth place. Thomas Hoey was sixth in 17:17, edging out Nick Roseboom (17:18) for that spot as Grayson Hoag was eighth in 17:29 and Kyle Stottler finished 10th in 17:34.
Morgan Gould and Maggie Strempel led a top-five girls sweep for Marcellus, each of them finishing in 20:25. Carolyn Carlic and Madeline Caron each posted 20:57 as Amy Franceschoni posted 22:47. Violet Moncavage finished in 24:13.
Westhill-Bishop Ludden was handling Mexico last Wednesday, the girls Warriors going to 6-1 with a 15-51 win over the Tigers as it swept the top eight positions.
Maura McAnaney, in a top time of 23:17, edged out Haylei Coolican (23:18) and Alaina Kenny (23:19) at the line, with Kendra MacCaull posting 23:22 ahead of Emily O’Reilly (23:27), Kylie Nowicki (23:28) and Emma Fjermedal (23:40).
Jordan-Elbridge took on Hannibal, and it was two state-ranked Class C sides going at it on the boys side, with the no. 17-ranked Eagles falling 24-31 to the no. 12-ranked Warriors.
In a close individual race, Sean Dristle finished in 15:19, but that was just behind Hannibal’s top tandem of Ben Dellison (15:09) and Patrick Hall, who was one second ahead of Dristle.
Hugh Schader was fourth, in 15:46, with Ethan Kinney sixth in 15:59. J-E lost despite Jared Alpha’s eighth-place time of 16:07 and Ken Williams getting 10th place in 16:21.
In the girls race, J-E lost, 26-33, to Hannibal, though Theresa Dristle won the individual race for the Eagles, posting a time of 18:08 to edge the Warriors’ Reilly Harris by six seconds.
Madison Daly finished fourth in 19:20, just ahead of Hannah Fitcher (19:22) in fifth place, but Hannibal swept the rest of the top 10 and also had the third-place finisher as Emily Weaver posted a time of 19:08.
Solvay was a spectator as, in girls cross country, state Class C no. 1-ranked CBA and no. 19-ranked Cazenovia faced off, the Brothers beating the Lakers 22-33. Jordyn Willsey, in a time of 21:18, had the Bearcats’ best individual effort, finishing 10th.
In the boys race, Solvay lost, 19-36, to CBA and 15-50 to Cazenovia, unable to get any of its runners into the top 10 as the Lakers’ James McPherson prevailed in 16:29, four seconds ahead of teammate Jon Marecek.
Solvay then ran in Saturday’s Tully Invitational, where on the girls side in the Small School division Willsey finished 32nd in 25:36.1, with Larissa DeJesus 47th in 28:04.8. Jonah Wheeler led the boys Bearcats by finishing 31st in 19:21.5.
