For the second time in as many matches in 2017, the Liverpool and Cicero-North Syracuse girls golf teams engaged in a close, hard-fought match where every stroke would count plenty.
And once again, led by the sister duo of Mia and Natalya Avotins, the Warriors prevailed, edging the Northstars 194-196 last Tuesday at Liverpool Country Club to go with the 194-197 decision that Liverpool claimed on April 26 at Northern Pines.
Here, it was Mia Avotins setting the pace with a nine-hole score of 40, while Natalya Avotins recorded a 42. Each of them topped the low C-NS individual round of 46 posted by Nessa Mckie.
But with Morgan Siechen shooting a 47, Abby Ainsworth a 51 and Jordan Himes a 52, the Northstars required the Warriors to get a 113 from its other two top individuals. They ended up one better as Mia Latifagic shot a 55 and Hannah Dombroski a 57 to clinch the victory.
With that win, Liverpool improved to 5-1 in the CNY Counties League, second behind unbeaten Fayetteville-Manlius.
