Helped by a sweep of the first-place finishes in all of the field events, the Cazenovia boys track and field team held off the Jordan-Elbridge Eagles 82-59 last Wednesday afternoon and improved to 2-0 on the season.
Ray Satchwell got it started for the Lakers by winning the triple jump, going 36 feet 7 inches to edge teammate Aiden Emoff (36’3”) for the top spot. Then, in the high jump, Satchwell cleared 5’4” to prevail.
Alec Boone unleashed a first-place long jump of 19’5” as Justin Gagnon finished third with 16’6”. Christian Winkler threw the discus 115’8” to lead a 1-2-3 Cazenovia sweep that included Angelo Annotto (108’6”) and Metz, who threw it 106”9”, but then claimed the shot put with a toss of 39 feet to edge Chad Carges (38’7”).
Jimmy McPherson won the 3,200-meter run in 10:55.1, with Noah DeRochie second in 11:23.2 after McPherson had won the mile in 5:02.1 ahead of DeRochie’s 5:12.9. Jacob Olikowski was second in the 800-meter run in 2:23.2.
In the 110 high hurdles, Gagnon won in 17.3 seconds, with Olikowski third in 18.8 seconds. Gagnon was second (1:07.3) and McPherson third (1:09.8) in the 400 hurdles, while Boone lost a close 100-meter dash, 11.7 seconds to 11.6 for J-E’s Ethan Kinney, who also won the 200 and 400-meter sprints.
Sean McPherson finished second in the 400 sprint in 56.5 seconds, while Sam Deleon was third in 57.5 seconds. James Pavelchak was third in the 100 in 11.7 seconds and moved up to second (24.6 seconds) in the 200 behind Kinney.
Chittenango’s boys track team gained a big OHSL Liberty division win on Thursday when it went up against Marcellus and pushed its way past the Mustangs 75-66.
Lucas Spiridilozzi won twice for the Bears, going 20.5 seconds to take the 110 high hurdles before gaining a victory in the 400 hurdles in 1:07.2. He also was second in the high jump, clearing 5’2″.
Mike Capeling swept the longest races, going 4:50.3 in the mile and 10:32.9 to take the 3,200-meter run as Matt Morak was second in 11:20.8.
Nick Stanton, a close second in both the 200 and 400 sprints and a half-inch (18’7 1/2″) behind the Mustangs’ Caleb Wetherall (18’8″) in the long jump, did win the 100 in 11.5 seconds. Diego Prado had a top discus throw of 102’4″ to edge Trevor Conklyn (101’1″), though Conklyn did win the shot put by heaving it 38’9″.
The Chittenango girls track team had competed earlier in the week in the East Syracuse Minoa Specialty Qualifying Invitational. The Bears’ Makenzie Dahlin was fifth in the 800 in 2:36.45. Aaliyeh Emid was sixth in the 400 hurdles and tied for seventh in the high jump.
Then the girls Bears lost, 99-41, to Marcellus on Thursday, though Emily Moon took the 800 in 2:45 flat and Kendra Moore was victorious in the 100 hurdles in 17.9 seconds. Moon helped Chittenango’s 4×800 team get first place in 10:45.3. Moore was part of the Bears’ winning 4×100 side that posted 56.7 seconds.
