Amid ever-changing weather conditions, each of the Skaneateles track and field teams got underway with wildly varying results in Tuesday’s season-opening meet against Christian Brothers Academy at Hyatt Stadium – and won big.
In particular, the boys Lakers beat up the Brothers 108-19, sweeping every portion of the field events with double wins from Chase Corcoran and Max Moss, and finding a fair amount of success on the oval, too.
Corcoran threw the discus 98 feet 2 inches in his first meet of the spring, and would also claim the shot put with a toss of 37’4”. Moss, who was third in the shot put, went 17’8” to beat Cross Bianchi (17’4”) and Ben Blackwell (16’6”) in the long jump, and then had a top triple jump of 34’4” as Ryan Wilcox (31’1”) and Ben Kringer (30’11”) followed.
Nicola Kunz took his turn in the high jump, winning with a top leap of 5’4” as Wilcox and Blackwell both topped 5 feet. Kringer and Bianchi would join Matt Leveroni and Jon Metz to win the 4×100 relay in 49.2 seconds.
A close 100-meter dash saw Bianchi beat CBA’s Brett VanPatten, 12.2 seconds to 12.3, but Joe Capozza pulled away to take the 400-meter dash in 56.2 seconds over Sam McClintic’s time of 59 seconds flat.
Nick Paciorek pulled away in the 400 hurdles, prevailing in 1:09.7as Kunz was second in 1:16.3 and Kyle Weldon (1:22.3) was third. Alex Wulff joined in by taking the 800-meter run in 2:17.6, with McClintic second in 2:19.2.
The meet started with Wulff, Metz, Kringer and Calvin Blackwell taking the 4×800 relay in 1:08.19, followed by a 4×400 relay where Metz again ran a leg helping Capozza, Wulff and Jeff Palmer finish in 4:05.7.
On the girls end, the Lakers controlled matters, too, defeating the Brothers 94-35. Raenah Campbell won a pair of races for the girls Lakers, going 16.7 seconds to edge Brady Iles (17.8) in the 100-meter hurdles and then prevailing in the 400 hurdles in 1:09.5.
Campbell also ran a leg on the 4×400 relay team (4;41.0) with Julia Willcox, Natalie Condon and Shannan Roberts. On her own, Willcox did plenty, from edging CBA’s Lea Kyle in the 1,500-meter run (both finished in 5:12.0) to clearing 4 feet 6 inches and prevailing in the high jump.
Roberts went 1:02.5 to edge CBA’s Claire Bargabos (1:02.9) in the 400-meter dash as Maddie Peterson (13.1 seconds) and Angela Krause (13.3 seconds) went 1-2 in the 100-meter dash. Skaneateles won the 4×800 relay as Condon, Mia Grasso, Katie Olsen and Nicole DeRosa posted 11:07.8.
Later, in the 4×100, Peterson and Krause joined Emme Conan and Aneglina Reese to claim that race in 52.2 seconds. In the throwing events, Nieve Morse won the shot put with a toss of 24’5”, while Ali Grant, second in that event, claimed the discus with a throw of 86’2” as Katherine Carlile threw it 84’8” for the runner-up spot.
