Up against the largest fields it would face all season, the Skaneateles girls track and field team made some inroads and scored 23 points, right in the middle of the pack, during last Friday’s Utica Challenge Invitational at Utica College’s Hutton Dome.
Maddie Peterson was third in the 55-meter dash in 7.69 seconds and Angela Krause was sixth in 7.77 seconds as Rome Free Academy’s Tekitha Posey-Barry prevailed in 7.42 seconds. Peterson and Krause, joined by Emme Conan and Julia Willcox, went 1:50.39 in the 4×200 relay for third place behind Baldwinsville (a meet-record 1:48.93 and Liverpool (1:49.35).
Julia Willcox had a strong showing in the 1,000-meter run, rising to fourth place in 3:11.57 as Clinton’s Gabrielle Dewhurst won in 3:07.77. Natalie Condon got eighth place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:13.73.
Melissa Biver, Shay McCarthy, Abbey Logan and Jessica Patalino were 11th in the 4×400 relay in 4:38.17. Maddy Brogan was 18th in the 3,000-meter run in 11:54.05 as Krause took 16th place in the long jump, going 14’10”.
Though the Skaneateles boys team did not pick up any points, it still competed in most of the events and nearly got on the board in the high jump, where Nicola Kunz tied for ninth, one spot out of the points, by clearing 5’4”.
Luke Rathgeb made it to 11th place in the 3,200-meter run in 10:26.94, with Tyler Lewis in 25th place. Brahm Malcolm was 13th in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.23 seconds. Luke Palmer got 19th place in the long jump, going 18’5 ¾”, four spots ahead of Alex Vanriper (17’10 ¼”), who got 19th place (36’10 ¼”) in the triple jump.
Jon Metz got 18th place in the 1,000 in 2:55.41 as Malcolm, Pat Hackler, Cross Bianchi and Max Moss were 14th in the 4×200 relay in 1:41.27. The Lakers were also 19th in both the 4×400 (4:14.53) and 4×800 (9:53.60) relays as Pat Hackler got 19th place in the 600 in 1:34 flat. Chase Corcoran was 16th in the weight throw (38’7”) and 23rd in the shot put.
