A trio of area indoor track and field teams would compete last Saturday in both sessions of the Fred Kirschenheiter Memorial Invitational, concluding their respective regular seasons as the league and Section III championships loom.
East Syracuse Minoa and Christian Brothers Academy were in the afternoon session, with the boys Spartans picking up 36 points for seventh and the girls ninth with 34 points, two more than CBA (32 points) in 10th place.
Jennah Ferrari led the girls Spartans, nearly winning the high jump as she cleared 4 feet 10 inches, just one inch behind C-NS’s Malerie Belles, who won with 4’11”. Mia Montgomery’s triple jump of 35 feet 1 ¼ inches put her in third place, not far from Cicero-North Syracuse’s Shayla Webb, who went 35’11 ¾”.
Lindsey Crego had a fourth-place shot put toss of 26’7”. Maria Markert was ninth in both the triple jump and long jump. The best ESM girls relay finish came in the 4×200, where Tiesha Benjamin, Lashae Benjamin, Catilynn Finerson and Kaylee Delucia were fifth in a time of 1:59.23.
Sage Almstead made it to fifth place in the 600-meter run in 1:49.05, two spots ahead of CBA’s Marni Rathbun (1:51.66) in seventh place. ESM finished sixth in the 4×400 relay in 4:47.40 and seventh in the 4×800 relay (12:08.59) as Julia Schug earned seventh place in the 1,500-meter run in 5:59.06.
As for CBA, Claire Bargabos was victorious in the 300-meter dash, finishing in 43.92 seconds, nearly two full seconds ahead of a field that included teammate Lily Walker, who finished seventh in 46.38 seconds as ESM’s Lashae Benjamin was ninth and Jacinta Hensinger 11th.
Lea Kyle went 3,000 meters in 11:26.32, second to Central Square’s Eva Keohane (11:14.35). Amanda Winn got to third place in the 1,000 in 3:14.25, with Bri Pucci sixth in 3:17.87 and Deja Jones eighth in 3:23.06.
The big highlight for ESM’s boys team was Nick Berg getting the victory in the mile in 4:49.85, holding off Fulton’s Kenneth Deloff (4:51.58) and the field. Isaiah Brooks also stood out, getting third place in the shot put with a throw of 39’9 ½” and taking fourth place in the high jump (5’8”) as Hunter Bruner finished eighth. Cody Laroche earned fifth place in the long jump, going 19’1 ½’.
Conner Hillman went 9.08 seconds for fifth place in the 55-meter hurdles. Tyler Hodge was sixth in the 600 in 1:34.34. Nate Castor, in a time of 2:58.39, made it to seventh place in the 1,000. The boys Spartans also finished eighth (4:14.73) in the 4×400. CBA’s top finish came from Matt Luddington, who was fifth in the 300 in 39.85 seconds.
Jamesville-DeWitt took part in the morning session, even though some of its top athletes were at a regional meet at Yale University in Connecticut. With many other athletes getting their chance in the spotlight, he girls and boys Red Rams each recorded sixth-place finishes – the girls earning 42 points, the boys 36 points.
Laettticia Bazile cleared 4 feet 10 inches in the high jump to finish second behind Liverpool’s Meghan Milazzo, who won by topping 5 feet. Gabrielle Tanksley earned second place in the pole vault, clearing 9 feet as another Warriors athlete, Kelley Townley, won by topping 10 feet.
Marianah Wiliams had a third-place shot put throw of 29 feet as Lauren Nandal was fourth with a toss of 28’1” as Nandal also finished eighth in the weight throw. Ailish McDevitt was fourth in the triple jump, with a top leap of 30’8 ¼”.
Abby Palin finished sixth (3:24.44) and Ayla Erwin seventh (3:26.21) in the 1,000-meter run, J-D also took seventh place in the 4×200 relay as Eva Wisniewski, Julia Antoine, Laeticcia Bazile and Denise Yaeger finished in 1:59.47. Antoine also took eighth place in both the long jump and high jump as Wisniewski finished 10th.
In the boys meet, J-D’s Murad Amurlayev finished second in the long jump, going 19’5 ½” to only trail Nottingham’s Shaheed Bashar-Dickerson (20’3 ¼”). Henry Middleton threw the shot put 38’7” to take fourth place.
Sam Glisson got fourth place in the 1,000 in 2:44.48, with Alex Le fifth in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet as Ben MacCrindle (9 feet) was eighth. Donavon Coughlin had a seventh-place triple jump of 34’2 ¾” and Liam McFadden finished 10th.
Luke Hobika (10:44.70) and Alan Gao (10:53.58) were sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 3,200-meter run. Juan Smith, Andrew Pan, Josh Duby and Will Rodriguez were seventh in the 4×400 relay in 4:02.83, with Amurlayev, Coughlin, Le and Jesse White seventh (1:41.29) in the 4×200. Parker Cote was ninth in the 600-meter run.
