For a first go-round in the fall, the Skaneateles boys golf team has made it quite successful, running away with the Onondaga High School League Liberty/Patriot division regular-season championship.
To start out last week’s action, Skaneateles claimed a 249-263 victory over Tully last Monday at Skaneateles Country Club. Ty Jones again was the Lakers’ top individual performer, and his 43 beat the Black Knights’ Alex Crysler (45) by three shots.
Then the Lakers were off until Friday, when it hosted a key showdown with Christian Brothers Academy at SCC. Only here did the Lakers stumble a bit, unable to generate consistent low scores in a 227-240 defeat to the Brothers.
Again, Jones found his way to the top of the individual standings, posting a 42, but the next three low rounds went to CBA, starting with David Gross, who shot a 43 just ahead of Steve Fournier and Mike Santoro, who both finished at 44.
Kenny Peterson managed a 45 on the Skaneateles side, only to see the Brothers put things away with twin 48s from Jack Lester and Chris Bushnell, both of them lower than the Lakers’ Ben Spinelli, who had a 49 in front of Michael Murphy (50) and Jake Reed (54).
Tough matches loom for the Lakers this week at SCC as it hosted Oswego Wednesday and, on Friday, had a rematch with the undefeated Auburn side that beat Skaneateles 205-235 in their first fall encounter Sept. 13 at Highland.
