Even though it was the host for the event, the Chittenango girls track and field team did not get any favors when it came to the level of competition it had to face for last Tuesday’s Section III Class A-2 championship meet.
The Bears only managed 22 points, putting them in eighth place amid a nine-team field. Oneida, with 132 points, held off Homer (116 points) and Central Valley Academy (106 points) for the top spot as Jamesville-DeWitt pulled way to win the sectional A-1 meet with 173 points.
Kaitlyn Swain contended in the 400-meter dash, finishing in a time of 1:00.85, to get second place behind CVA’ Camryn Stone, who prevailed in 1:00.20. Swain went on to get sixth place in the 200-meter dash in 28.20 seconds and helped Krissy Roberts, Alex Rheaume and Mia Morgillo finish seventh in the 4×400 relay in 4:32.68.
McKenzie Dombroski took fourth place in the 3,000-meter run in 11:47.41, while Roberts rose to fourth place in the long jump, going 16 feet 1 inch as Oneida’s Juliana Cavanagh (17’1 ¼”) prevailed. Roberts added a sixth-place triple jump of 31’6 ¾”, even as it matched that of CVA’s Shelly Lemay in fifth place.
Dombroski, Alyssa Crystal, Devin Gordon and Taylor Scalzo finished fifth in the 4×800 relay in 10:57.03. Kendria Moore got to fifth place in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.36 seconds, though it was the same time as Homer’s Arielle Moheimani.
Gordon needed 9:01.50 for seventh place in the 2,000-meter steeplechase. Hayley Foran was seventh in the 1,500-meter run in 5:35.94. Moore, Roberts, Lindsay Kent and Alyssa Kolb got eighth place in the 4×100 relay in 55.48 seconds.
