In order to stay atop the Onondaga High School League Liberty American division standings, the Skaneateles girls track and field team had to conquer Westhill-Bishop Ludden – and did so.
The Lakers’ impressive 83-49 victory over the Warriors helped it get some breathing space in the league race, with Marcellus also close behind in the standings.
In the boys meet, Skaneateles lost, to Westhill-Ludden. 115-25, only getting two wins in individual events. Chase Corcoran threw the discus 125 feet 7 inches, while Sam McClintic ran the mile in 5:09 flat.
For the Warriors, Keandre Sanders won three times, taking the 100-meter dash in 11.3 seconds before first-place finishes in the long jump (20 feet ½ inch) and triple jump (39 feet 9 ½ inches), while Bryan King swept the 110 high hurdles (16.0 seconds) and 400 hurdles (1:03.0) to help out.
Then some of the Skaneateles boys went to Saturday’s Weedsport Invitational, where its best finish came in the 1,600 sprint medley. Brahm Malcolm, Max Moss, Zach Blair and Jon Metz finished in 4:10.48, behind only Phoenix, who won in 3:57.45.
On his own, Malcolm got fifth place in the 400 hurdles in 1:06.66, and went 19.7 seconds in the 110 high hurdles to finish seventh. Ryan Willcox cleared 5 feet for fifth place in the high jump. Blair was eighth in both the 100 and 200-meter sprints, while Metz was 10th in the 400-meter dash.
