The Fayetteville-Manlius girls track and field team, who had just won the Chittenango Invitational on April 29, started its May slate with easy wins over Nottingham, prevailing 118-19 on the girls side and beating the Bulldogs 98-40 on the boys side.
In the girls meet, Gwenn Shepardson repeated her 100-meter hurdles (16.7 seconds) and 400-meter hurdles (1:11.9) victories from Chittenango, with Sophia Ryan going 1:03.3 in the 400-meter dash and then winning the 3,000-meter run in 10:29.4.
Cady Barns went 13.1 seconds in the 100 sprint, one of three titles she earned as she was first in the long jump, going 15 feet 4 ½ inches, and then had a top triple jump of 31’9”. Brittany Travis swept the throwing events, taking the shot put with a throw of 31’9” and heaving the discus 72’9 ½”.
Sydney O’Dell cleared 4’8” in the high jump as Febe Oley topped 6 feet in the pole vault. Susan Bansbach was first in the 200-meter dash in 28.5 seconds as Samantha Levy sped to a time of 4:49.8 in the 1,500 and Rebecca Walters won the 800 in 2:26 flat.
Kaitlyn Neal, winner of the Fleet Feet Mile at Chittenango, paired with Shepardson, Bansbach and Christy Berge’ to take the 4×400 relay in 4:25.7. O’Dell, Barns, Bansbach and Shepardson won the 4×100 (52.9 seconds) as Walters, Jenna Farrell, Palmer Madsen and Reilly Madsen claimed the 4×800 in 11;51.7.
F-M had three doubles winners in the boys meet, starting with Muhammad Qubaisy, who went 18.4 seconds in the 110 high hurdles and then took the 400 hurdles in 1:00.9 as Patrick Perry won the mile in 4:46.9 and posted a time of 2:06.9 in the 800.
Chibu Ezidegwu had a top triple jump of 40’4” and also cleared 5’10” in the high jump, while Vincent Perry topped 8 feet in the pole vault. Connor Florczyk had a first-place long jump of 18’4 ½” as Michael Young won the 400 sprint in 54.4 seconds.
Jack Boltman, Brendan Pearl, Max Perry and Ken Kaiser paired to win the 4×800 relay in 8:58.10, with Young and Bryan Geehrer joining Vincent and Patrick Perry in the 4×400, where the Hornets prevailed in 3:51.20.
