A lot had taken place for the Skaneateles boys golf team even when it off during the April school break, including seventh-grader Ty Jones registering a hole-in-one during a practice round at Skaneateles Country Club.
Then matches resumed last week, and the Lakers immediately found success, sweeping last Wednesday’s three-team match with Jordan-Elbridge and Altmar-Parish-Williamstown by shooting 230 to the Eagles’ 282 and the Rebels’ 318.
Jones, as a follow-up to his ace, shot a 46 amid windy conditions. He was just behind Jacob Patalino, who led with a 44, and Steve Ciaccio, who managed a 45. Luke Palmer posted a 47 and Sam Clymer finished with a 48. Robbie Alcock led J-E with a 47, but none of his teammates shot below 50.
Back from its spring break, the Skaneateles girls golf team met its own troubles at Drumlins last Tuesday afternoon when it took a 202-217 defeat to Christian Brothers Academy.
Jillian Barker threatened for top individual honors and shot a 49, but that trailed two CBA golfers, Liz Kip and Megan McKeen, who both shot 47. Jenna Field contributed a 56 on the Lakers’ side.
Turning it around on Wednesday afternoon, the Lakers edged East Syracuse Minoa 209-212 at SCC, with Addison Gremly working her way through wet conditions to post a 49 and lead all individuals.
Then the Lakers made it back-to-back wins on Friday, pulling away from Chittenango 197-233. Barker went back to the top of the standings with a 47, while Karah Blair improved to a 49 and Jenna Field had a 50. All of those scores, along with Gremly’s 51, beat the Bears’ Sarah Schmidt, who led her side with a 54.
