Much of last week’s girls lacrosse schedule fell victim to the same winter weather that shut down everything from baseball to softball to track and field meets, plus tennis and golf matches.
Marcellus did not play. However, things cleared up enough for Jordan-Elbridge to take on Bishop Ludden-Bishop Grimes last Friday night, and the Eagles, heading into the busiest stretch of its season, rolled to a 15-6 victory.
J-E had beaten Tully in overtime the week before, and here its attack was just as potent, steadily working its way to an 8-2 lead on Ludden-Grimes by halftime.
By game’s end, Antonia Malvaso and Marissa Malvaso both had scored four times, with Antonia adding a pair of assists. Miranda Malvaso had two goals and two assists, while Alison Jennings gained one goal and two assists.
Emily Somes got one goal and one assist and Alexis Switzer produced a pair of assists. Katie Goodrich and Emily Kuehnle contributed single goals as, on Ludden-Grimes’ side, Molly McInerney earned three goals and one assist, with Grace Lambrych finding the net twice and Laura Patulski also getting a goal.
Having already won four times early this season Westhill was supposed to test itself again when it ventured into the Class A ranks to take on Liverpool in a clash of Warriors last Friday night at LHS Stadium. However, that game got postponed.
Before all this, Westhill took on – and beat – its closest neighbors last Wednesday night, controlling matters against Ludden Grimes in an 18-4 romp. The Warriors were so effective that just two Ludden-Grimes players – Molly McInerney and Laura Patulski – were able to score goals, with McInerney converting three of them for the hat trick.
On the other side, Westhill overcame 10 saves by Ludden-Grimes goalie Camille O’Kane with a well-balanced attack that Erin McMullen and Haleigh Farrell anchored, each of them putting up four goals.
Caroline Miller scored three times, with Natalie Jetter and Abby Stack both notching three assists as Jetter earned two goals and Stack one goal. Shelby Stack chimed in with two goals and two assists as Sam VanBuren and Rebecca Gilhooley earned the other goals, VanBuren adding an assist.
