CAZENOVIA — On June 15, the Cazenovia Central School District (CCSD) Athletic Department held a press conference to highlight eight students who plan to participate in their sports at the collegiate level or an alternate post-secondary level.
The student athletes had the opportunity to sign commitment forms, announce their plans, and have their photographs taken with family, coaches and friends.
The following eight seniors participated in the press conference: Madison Young, Kiara Dolan, Gannon Houghton, Logan Comfort, Ella Brown, Carley Lounsbury, Elora Wilmot and Molly Hart.
“There are possibly a few more members of the Class of 2021 that may end up playing their sport in college, but some students are still undecided about their plans and/or have been invited to tryouts, or may attempt to walk on,” said Athletic Administrator Mike Byrnes. “The students that participated in [this] press conference have been recruited by the coaching staff at their respective schools or organizations.”
Young announced that she is headed to Nazareth College to play field hockey for the Golden Flyers.
Dolan is attending Hartwick College with plans to join the field hockey team.
In May, Houghton was drafted by the Utica Jr Comets to play hockey in the National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC) of the United States Premier Hockey League.
The NCDC is a 13-team tuition-free junior hockey league that prepares players to skate at the Division I or Division III level and beyond.
Comfort will attend SUNY Cortland, where he plans to play soccer for the Red Dragons.
In the fall, Brown will attend St. Lawrence University and play women’s lacrosse for The Saints.
Lounsbury announced her plans to play field hockey for the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops.
Wilmot plans to attend Herkimer County Community College and play softball for the Herkimer Generals.
Hart announced that she would be attending St. John Fisher College with plans to participate in the cross-country and track & field programs.
According to Byrnes, the CCSD Athletic Department intends to hold this press conference every June for students planning to pursue their sport at the next level.
