The New York State Outdoorsmen Hall of Fame proudly announces that it has inducted eight new members for 2016. These inductees represent all areas of the state and many fields of endeavor. The NYSOHOF is an organization dedicated to honoring those individuals who have spent many years preserving our outdoor heritage, working for conservation, or enhancing our outdoor sports for future generations. Among those selected is Charles Pace
Cazenovia resident Charles Pace has long been active in improving opportunities of central New York sportsmen. He usually works quietly in the background in meetings with public officials and legislators for the good of sportsmen without fanfare. As a member of the Region 7 Fish and Wildlife Management Board he worked to obtain hunting opportunities in several state park lands. He was instrumental in gaining a state park on the east shore of Cazenovia Lake for launching car top boats and negotiating public access for trailed boats at the Cazenovia Village Park.
Pace was one of the founding members of SHOTS (Sportsmen Helping Others Through Sharing) and served as president and director. Under his leadership SHOTS annually raised money to provide hunting or fishing trips for handicapped or terminally ill sportsmen and women. The organization also was active in promoting National Archery in Schools Program, providing funds for school’s archery equipment and helping send qualified students to the national championship competitions. They also had many programs to assist and encourage youth participating in fishing and hunting.
Charlie Pace was selected for the Conservation Fund Advisory Board and received the Onondaga County Federation of Sportsmen’s award as Sportsmen of the Year in 2006. In 2008 he was named Central New York Sportsman of the Year.
The new inductees will be honored at the annual banquet and will have their plaques displayed at the NYSOHOF Museum in Vail Mills, NY. These inductees will be formally inducted at the annual banquet on Saturday, April 30 at the Rusty Rail in Canastota. Family and friends are invited to join in this evening of celebration.
