Onondaga — When the Onondaga High School League Division 2 and 3 meets were held last Wednesday night at SRC Arena, Westhill-Bishop Ludden nearly swept Division II and Jordan-Elbridge emerged as the girls Division 3 champion.
Up in Division 2, Westhill-Ludden’s boys needed 114.5 points to pull away from Marcellus, who was second with 73 points. In the girls event, the Warriors had 107 points, but was a close runner-up to Cazenovia’s 119 points as Marcellus (36 points) edged out Solvay (33 points) for fifth place.
Alex Kiley led Westhill-Ludden’s efforts, gaining 28 points by himself. In the long jump, Kiley went 20 feet 7 ¾ inches, going on to win the triple jump, too, with a top effort of 41’10 ½” as no one else broke the 40-foot barrier, though Solvay’s Garrett Lee (38’8 ½”) was third.
Kiley also was second in the 55-mter dash, beaten out by inches by Chittenango’s Nick Stanton, though both finished in 7.10 seconds. But the Warriors won the 4×400 relay as Chris Coates, Adam French, Cody Badman and Matt McAnaney posted 3:45.40 to pull away from the field that included Solvay (4:14.19) in fifth place.
Nick French joined Coates, Badman and McAnaney as the Warriors finished second (1:39.94), inches behind Cazenovia (1;39.85), in the 4×200 relay, with Solvay fifth in 1;46.81.
Bryan King added to that by winning the 55-meter hurdles in 8.42 seconds, with Will Ringwood (9.07 seconds) in fourth place. King also was second (10 feet) to Phoenix’s Chris Fisk (11’6”) in the pole vault as Will Swartwood won the shot put, tossing it 41 feet 2 ¾ inches to beat Marcellus’ Luke Norstad (38’7 ½”) and Solvay’s Jacob Fitzmaurice (37’8”) in the next two spots.
Jake Suddaby got second place in the 3,200-meter run in 10:33.34, with Jack Savage fifth. Garnet Remillard went 2:43.04, just behind Syracuse ITC’s Solomon Lawrence (2:42.49), in the 1,000-meter run, and then was second (4:42.08) to Lawrence (4:39.59) in the mile
continued — As for Marcellus, it went 1-2 in the high jump, Sean Raymond the only competitor to clear 6 feet as Mike Keegan was second, topping 5’8”.
Patrick McGuane nearly won the 600-meter run, going 1:27.66 to finish inches behind Lawrence (1:27.48) as Raymond was third in 1:31.72 and Nick French was fifth for Westhill-Ludden. But McGuane and Riccardi, with Raymond and Matt Strempel, won the 4×800 relay in 9:05.08, as Westhill-Ludden was third (9:20.81).
The Mustangs’ Mike Provvidenti went 38.32 seconds in the 300 to finish second to CBA’s Tom SanGiacomo (37.95 seconds). The Warriors’ Ben Hunter was sixth, one spot behind Francemone, who added a fifth-place finish in the triple jump.
Provvidenti also got fourth place in the 55 sprint in 7.32 seconds, while Strempel was fifth in the 1,000 and Ethan Mosure was sixth in the mile. Sam Stearns was fourth in the pole vault for Marcellus, ahead of Westhill-Ludden’s Ben Eassa in fifth place.
Despite the close defeat to Cazenovia, Westhill-Ludden’s girls had plenty of strong finishes, including Katherine Doherty winning the pole vault as she cleared 10 feet 3 inches. None of her challengers got past 8 feet, though Marcellus had Courtney Otis fourth (7 feet) and Hannah Ryan (6’6”) fifth.
Doherty also was second in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.42 seconds, with Jayonna Monds (9.78 seconds) fourth as Monds also took sixth in the 300. Paired together, Monds, Doherty, Annibel Coolican and Olivia Daigneau went 1:56.87 in the 4×200 relay to beat Cazenovia’s 1:58.17, with Marcellus fourth in 2:01.68.
Coolican also was second in the triple jump, going 32’6 ½” as teammate Zoe Fortin was fourth and Solvay’s Katie Harrington (31’9 ¾”) finished fourth. But Harrington fared better for the Bearcats in the high jump, tying for second place (4’8”) behind Skaneateles’ Mia Grasso (5 feet)
continued — In the 1,000, Genny Corcoran edged the Lakers’ Clara Rowles, 3:13.70 to 3:14.77, with Haylei Coolican third in 3:17.01 as Olivia Bird gave Marcellus a fifth-place finish in 3:43.32. Corcoran was second, in 5:05.28, to Rowles (5:02.63) in the 1,500-meter run, where Alaina Kenny took fourth place in 5:08.11. Annibel Coolican was third in the 600-meter run in 1:47.14.
Liz Kessler (10:59.82) and Maura McAnaney (11:50.88) were second and fourth, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run. Kenny, Haylei Coolican, Megan O’Reilly and Carmelia Carr were second (10:36.49) to Cazenovia (10:26.38) in the 4×800, while Daigneau, Noelle Coolican, Sarah LaChance and Kendra McCaull were third in the 4×400 relay in 4:33.50, with Solvay fourth (4:47.33) and Marcellus fifth (4:51.77).
Solvay went 1-2 in the shot put as Samantha Waters won with a toss of 31’5 ¾” and Ashley Bosco (30’9 ¼”) was second.
Marcellus saw Grace Coon clear 4’8” in the high jump for second place, while Mary-Catherine Coon was fourth as she also took third in the 55-meter dash in 7.77 seconds, with Meg Blystone fourth in the shot put and Haley Randall sixth in the 55 hurdles. Westhill-Ludden’s Katie DeVeyra earned a fourth-place long jump of 15 feet.
Meanwhile, in the OHSL Division 3 meet, Jordan-Elbridge’s girls accumulated 137 points to beat out Hannibal (110 points) for the top spot, and though the boys Eagles were not as successful, it still got 47 points for fourth place as Tully (125 points) held off Hannibal (108 points) to win.
Mary Elizabeth Dristle, in a time of 11:55.32, edged out Abby Gugel (11:55.64) as they ran 1-2 in the 3,000, but Gugel did claim the 1,500 in 4:50.72, pulling away from Dristle (5:43.20) in the runner-up spot. Dristle, Gugel, Madison Daly and Maggie Dejohn teamed to win the 4×800 in 11:03.86, with Emma Burns, Julie Hines, Theresa Dristle and Madi Hatt winning the 4×400 in 1:55.19 to Faith Heritage’s 1:55.46.
continued — Burns won the 1,000 in 3:30.54, with Daly (3:33.51) claiming fourth place. Burns (1:52.37) and Theresa Dristle (1:53.11) were second and third, respectively, in the 600.
The Eagles were second in the 4×400 in 5:09.20, right behind Hannibal’s 5:08.38, as Julie Hines was third (7.79 seconds) and Hatt sixth in the 55 sprint before she rose to second place in the 300 in 45.16 seconds behind Hannibal’s Tayler Dence (44.70 seconds). Natalyn Walts was fifth in the 55 hurdles.
In field events, Hines cleared 4’6” for second place in the high jump, with Theresa Dristle topping 6’6” for second place in the pole vault. Megan Jackson recorded a third-place triple jump of 28’9 ¼”, with Michaela Mills in fifth place. Samantha Hodge took fifth place in the shot put, while Mills was fifth in the long jump.
J-E’s boys saw Brad Marshall win the shot put, tossing it 41’9” as no one else could top 40 feet, but that was the Eagles’ lone title. Ethan Kinney take second place in the 600 in 1:29.64 behind Tully’s Kyle Berardi (1:28.93), and also get the second spot in the 300 in 38.21 seconds, again with Berardi (37.80 seconds) on top. Kinney also helped the Eagles to fourth place in both the 4×800 and 4×200.
Brendan Bourque, Logan Kinney, Ryan Chiaramonte and Ethan Madden finish third in the 4×400 in 4:12.41. Hunter Brunelle was fifth in the 1,000 in 3:04.46, with Dan Jorolemon sixth in 3:07.46 as Brunelle also got fifth (5:00.69) in the mile and Chiaramonte was fifth in the 55 hurdles.
