Having made a strong opening statement with a third-place finish in Cicero-North Syracuse’s Andersen Memorial Tournament on Dec. 5, the Liverpool wrestling team continued to work through early-season contests.
For its first head-to-head match of the season last Monday night, the Warriors hosted East Syracuse Minoa, and claimed each of the first seven bouts on the way to a 60-18 victory over the Spartans.
In the 106-pound opener, Christian Bradshaw, who won in that same weight class at Andersen, pinned Donovan Marriott, with Steve Pascarella (112 pounds) claiming a 12-8 decision over Casey O’Donnell.
Five more wins followed, three of them forfeits to Sean Nadeau (120 pounds), Dylan Scott (126 pounds) and Dylan Wallace (145 pounds). But Jerry Nash did wrestle at 132 pounds, pinning Dane Peck, with Audey Ashkar pinning Garren Kuney in their 138-pound contest.
ESM did manage to gain all of its points with wins in four of the next five bouts, with only Jalen Barron (182 pounds) breaking that run as he pinned Darian Crossman. Then Zach Eason (220 pounds) won a tough 6-4 decision over Mason Hausler before David Carnie, at 285 pounds, pinned David Cooper and Corey Okun (99 pounds) claimed a forfeit.
On Saturday, the Warriors made a trip to Churchville-Chili, west of Rochester, for the Demeco Trainor Duals. And the Warriors performed quite well, going 4-1 to take third place, though its mark was the same as runner-up Keshequa. Only Fairport, at 5-0, finished with a better record.
Meanwhile, C-NS hosted its annual Blindmen’s Tournament for JV wrestlers on Saturday, but its varsity side did not have a match, instead practicing and getting ready for Wednesday’s CNY Counties League opener at Auburn and the North Country Tournament, set for Friday and Saturday at Indian River.
