BREWERTON — Summer expeditions are ready to be found at the Northern Onondaga Public Library (NOPL) at Brewerton.
Throughout the month of July, the Brewerton Branch will be hosting a scavenger hunt. The hunt will take participants throughout Brewerton.
“It’s meant to be a fun way to encourage people to explore the community,” said Brewerton Branch Manager Alissa Borelli. “We’d love to hear about what they’ve discovered that they didn’t know about.”
Some of the prompts for the scavenger hunt include visiting a marina in Brewerton and the Arrowhead Lodge. Participants are encouraged to share pictures of their scavenger hunt adventures on social media and tag the library with @noplibrary.
To participate in the scavenger hunt, patrons should stop by the Brewerton Branch to pick up the community scavenger hunt sheet. Once a scavenger hunt is completed, bring the sheet back to the library to win prizes such as candy, ice cream sundae cups and more.
Starting in August, the Brewerton Branch will also be giving out a puzzle about Brewerton. The questions all pertain to “a current location in Brewerton that used to have a different function.”
“If you need help,” reads the puzzle sheet, “on the back side is a word scramble that contains the answer.”
Those who complete the puzzle will receive a prize when they return the sheet to the library at any point during the month of August.
NOPL at Brewerton also has summer activities aimed towards kids. Each Thursday in July, patrons can pick up a Fairy Tale Detective mystery kit at the library.
The Fairy Tale Detective mystery kits include clues and photos to help solve the mystery each week. All of the puzzles are themed around classic fairy tales such as Rumpelstiltskin and Cinderella.
Kids can solve the mysteries on their own or with their families. Each kit is non-sequential, so kids can jump in on the fun at any time. Additionally, if someone misses a week, they can always go back and solve the previous week’s kit.
One week’s mystery was the thrilling theft of the Evil Stepmother’s pet, with suspects including Cruella de Vil and Maleficent. For solving the puzzles, kids will win a Disney-themed treat bag, which includes silly straws, stickers, and more.
To participate in the Fairy Tale Detective, stop by the Brewerton Branch any Thursday and bring the answer back whenever the case is solved.
