SKANEATELES – Confronted with its first serious challenge this winter, the Skaneateles girls ice hockey team was up to it, on both sides of the rink.
Oswego came to Allyn Arena Tuesday night and made the game stressful all the way to the third period, but the Lakers found its offense just in time and put away the Buccaneers 2-0.
As expected, much of the game was played in Oswego’s end. Sknaeateles was consistent in its attack, yet for two period all its chances got turned away thanks to Bucs goaltender Regan Healy, who was on her way to 25 saves overall.
Finally in the third Skaneateles got on the board courtesy of the duo of Genevieve Smart and Kendra Garlock, who notched the goals with assists credited to Layla Smart, Sakura Dotterer, Makayla Barron and Cora Major.
Brooke Coffey wasn’t tested much, but the Lakers goalie turned back all 10 shots she faced. Skaneateles waits a week for its next game at Ithaca before returning home to face Alexandria Bay on Dec. 13.
