Even though it has three consecutive Section III Class C championships in the books, the Skaneateles girls tennis team is far from content.
The quest for more glory began last Thursday afternoon against familiar rival Marcellus, and the Lakers, under the direction of head coach Elizabeth Flamann, were more than up to it, sweeping all four doubles matches and handling the Mustangs 6-1.
After leading the singles side for three years, Katelyn Ellison moved to doubles for this match, joining Liz Belinski as they shut out Maddie Conklin and Hannah Taroli 6-0, 6-0.
Maura McNeil and Maddy Pinkney stayed on the court a bit longer, but also prevailed in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, over Anna Canny and Allison Clancy.
Meanwhile, the teams of Julia Torrisi-Rachel Feeney and Bailey Parsons-Alex Ditch also gained points through two-sets wins. Torrisi and Feeney handled Grace Vensel and Sarah Rohe 6-1, 6-0, while Ditch and Parsons beat Linn and Madeline Bird by those exact same scores.
Up in singles, Angela Krause ran into Mustangs star Haley Randall and took a 6-0, 6-0 defeat, but Olivia Gage and Erica Byrne each won by equal 6-3, 6-2 margins, with Gage defeating Rickie Mixon and Byrne getting past Abby Vetsch.
This helped the Lakers take some momentum into September and matches next week against Cazenovia and Westhill.
