Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Madison County has announced that Open Farm Day will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, July 30, at 38 farms throughout Madison County. Open Farm Day is a free, family friendly event that offers the public the opportunity to tour farms, enjoy food tastings, meet animals and learn about local agriculture.
Now in its eighth year, Open Farm Day was developed by CCE Madison County’s Agriculture Economic Development program to increase the visibility of local farms. The event is now a well-established Madison County tradition that last year attracted over 5,000 visitors to tour farms around the county.
This year, fruit and vegetable farms, dairy and livestock farms, equine, bee operations and, for the first time, a farm distillery will all be open to welcome visitors to learn more about their farms.
The Open Farm Day website (OpenFarmDayMadisonCounty.com) is now live. Visit to view profiles of all 38 stops and start to plan out a route. Passport guides are available for download and will be available for pick-up in July at regional Price Chopper stores. Getting a passport stamped at three farms and filling out a visitors’ survey will earn guests a giveaway prize.
Open Farm Day is the largest events of its kind in New York state, giving visitors their best chance all year to explore a wide variety of farms.
