ONONDAGA COUNTY – Now it was decision time for each of Baldwinsville’s bowling teams.
It began Sunday at Strike-N-Spare Lanes with the boys Section III championships, and continues a week later at Flamingo Bowl, where the Bees are favored to repeat its large-school title from 2022.
With a total pinfall of 5.767 in the boys tournament, the Bees finished fourth in Class A and fifth in Division I, where New Hartford (6,169) held off Central Square (6,124) to earn a return trip to Strike-N-Spare for March’s state team tournament.
A fifth-game aggregate of 865 kept B’ville from getting closer to the top as every other game was between 917 and 1,006 as, individually, Jordan Sevigny led his side.
With games of 237, 193, 197, 236, 168 and 223, Sevigny’s 1,254 meant a 10th-place finish and an average of exactly 209 per game as New Hartford’s Trevor Cyr was on top with 1,354, edging Cicero-North Syracuse’s Nehemiah Bachman (1,342).
Charlie Richards started with games of 217 and 215 on his way to 1,196 and 22nd place, while Scott Ritcey was 26th with a 1,138 series and high game of 238 as Zenon Gasiorowski started with 205 and 212 in his 1,140 set, averaging exactly 190 per game.
Not bowling in the first game, Liam Reddy shot five games of 868, with a high game of 189. Gabe Streeter shot an opening game of 136.
Both B’ville sides went in there in great form, as it showed last Wednesday at B’ville Sports Bowl when it swept a match against East Syracuse Minoa.
Some impressive games were part of the girls Bees’ 7-0 shutout of the Spartans, starting when Julia Speich had 10 strikes in a 267 opening game that, with a 199 and 192, constituted a 658 series.
Madison Hass opened with a 248 during her 563 series, while Samantha Hass had a 205, 212 and 175 on her way to a 592 total and Jenna Speich’s second-game 236 was part of a 585 series.
This happened as B’ville’s boys team, with a 5-9 records this season, knocked off 10-1 ESM in a 5-2 decision that featured steady bowling from its top stars.
In the first game, the Bees had 1,113 to the Spartans’ 1,059, then beat ESM 1,103-1,061 in the second game before a 1,110-1,042 defeat in the third. Gasiorowski shot 222, 200 and 181 in his 603 series, just ahead of Sevigny’s 580 series that concluded with a 244 high game.
