Eight months after a fire devastated the building, the Female Charitable Society’s medical equipment loan closet has reopened.
“After suffering a devastating fire in March, we are once again open, restocked, and ready to serve,” reads a statement on the FCS website, femalecharitablesociety.com.
Founded in 1817, the Female Charitable Society is one of the nation’s oldest charitable organizations run primarily by women. The FCS loan closet contained about 2,400 pieces of medical equipment such as canes, hospital beds and wheelchairs, available to residents of the Baldwinsville Central School District for temporary use. The loan closet program began in 1928.
The loan closet is still unable to accept donations of medical equipment, but BCSD residents may borrow items.
The Female Charitable Society’s loan closet is located at at 10 River St. in the village of Baldwinsville. Its hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
