While the total appropriations for the 2017 Van Buren town budget are still being calculated, Supervisor Claude Sykes has released the tax levy and tax rates for next year.
As of Sept. 20, Van Buren had calculated its tax levy for next year at $3,126,042, which represents a 1.3 percent decrease from the 2016 levy of $3,167,229.
“We’re projecting we’ll be under the tax cap — $110,075,” Sykes said. “The board still didn’t take any raise; everybody else got a raise per their union contract.”
Inside the village of Baldwinsville, residents will see their taxes rise 4.6 percent, which equals a $7.68 increase on a $100,000 home. The 2017 tax rate has been calculated at about $1.76 per $1,000 of assessed value, so a B’ville homeowner could pay $176.43 next year, compared to $168.75 this year.
Outside the village, taxes are going down 3.2 percent from the 2016 rate of about $4.32 per thousand to $4.18 per thousand. A Van Buren resident with a home valued at $100,000 can expect to pay $417.76 next year, or $13.85 less than this year.
A public hearing on the 2017 budget will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Van Buren Town Hall, 7575 Van Buren Road, Baldwinsville. The town board will vote on the budget following the hearing.
