The Northern Onondaga Public Library (NOPL) at Cicero is screening a series of highly acclaimed environmental films this fall with the goal of starting a community dialogue and raising awareness about issues affecting our planet.
The series kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, with a showing of the Emmy-nominated “Bluebird Man.” The documentary focuses on the efforts of 91-year-old Alfred Larson and his work as a citizen scientist for bluebird conservation spanning over three decades. The 30-minute film features stunning scenery, intimate conversations, and breathtaking footage of three species of bluebirds.
“Dirt! The Movie” is the second film in the series. Narrated by Jamie Lee Curtis, the film aims to help people discover how repairing the human relationship with dirt can create new possibilities for all life on earth. “Dirt! The Movie,” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13.
The series will conclude at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, with “INHABIT: A Permaculture Perspective.” This film explores the many environmental and agricultural issues facing the world today and examines solutions utilizing the ecological design process known as permaculture.
Each film will begin with a brief introduction (and popcorn!), and will be followed with a casual discussion. All are welcome.
This series is made possible with help from GreeningUSA and the Friends of the Cicero Library.
