‘An Intimate Evening’ opens Syracuse City Ballet’s 20th anniversary season Sept. 22

Syracuse City Ballet opens its 20th anniversary season with the third annual “An Intimate Evening with Syracuse City Ballet” at 7 p.m. Sept. 22  in the Bevard Studio at the Oncenter in Syracuse.

“You don’t often get the chance to see dance as up close as you will with ‘Intimate Evening,’” said company Artistic and Executive Director Kathleen Rathbun. “There are only 150 seats and no matter where you sit you will vividly experience the strength and athleticism of the dancers as well as their grace and beauty.”

The evening will feature a blend of classical ballet and contemporary dance with original choreography by the company’s Ballet Mistress Stephanie Dattellas and Assistant Ballet Mistress Rachael Cierniakoski.  Featured artists include Lauren Tenney, Claire Rathbun and Jake Casey.  Tenney is a company dancer with Rochester City Ballet. Claire Rathbun was a 2014 Youth America Grand Prix New York City medalist and has danced with Washington Ballet. She performed, with Casey, in the first “Intimate Evening” in 2014. Casey dances with  Cincinnati Ballet and was in Syracuse City Ballet’s 2015 production of “Swan Lake.” Members of the company’s Corps de Ballet will also be featured.

Tickets are $22.50 and are available through eventbrite.com (type Syracuse City Ballet in the search box). For more information on “Intimate Evening” and the entire 2016-17 company season, go to syracusecityballet.com.  Season tickets — including “Intimate Evening,” “The Nutcracker” on Dec. 3 and 4, and “Snow White” on March 10 and 12, 2017 — offer 10 percent savings over the cost of buying individual production tickets and can be purchased through the company’s website.
