North Area Meals on Wheels is holding its 18th annual golf tournament Sunday, Sept. 11, at Foxfire at Village Green in Baldwinsville.
“It’s about having fun and raising money for a good cause,” said David France, tournament chairman.
France has been volunteering for NAMOW for 17 years — almost as long as the golf tournament has been in existence. He has benefited from NAMOW and wanted to give back.
“It’s important to me because I was disabled at the age of 37. I’m 52 now and still disabled. I couldn’t move; I couldn’t walk,” France said. “They’ve done more for me than i could ever do for them.”
NAMOW has more than 250 volunteers like France, including both drivers and kitchen staff.
“They give me a reason to get up every day,” he said.
While the official registration deadline was Sept. 2, France said the tournament will accept walk-in golfers on the day of the event. Individual registration costs $90 and registration for a team of four costs $360. The registration cost covers greens fees, golf cart and a steak dinner.
The NAMOW golf tournament begins with a shotgun start at noon Sunday, Sept. 11. Players should report to Foxfire at Village Green, located on Village Boulevard in Baldwinsville, at 11:30 a.m. to receive their cart assignments.
If you cannot attend the golf tournament, France said you can still donate or volunteer for NAMOW. Visit namow.org or call 452-1402 for more information.
