“Muslim Journeys” is a four-part reading and discussion series that will be held at the Northern Onondaga Public Library (NOPL) at North Syracuse this fall. The series is based on selected novels and memoirs that explore the provocative and gripping stories about the experiences of Muslims around the world and in the United States.
The goal of the discussion series is to increase understanding of Muslim peoples and cultures and to overcome some of the stereotypes and views portrayed in the mass media.
An orientation for the series begins from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, and reading materials will be available for pickup. Four discussion dates will follow the orientation session:
- 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20
- 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18
- 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15
- 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13
Scarlett Rebman, a Ph.D. student and Humanities Fellow at Syracuse University, will moderate each discussion.
This program is free and open to the public, but space is limited so registration is recommended. For more information, contact NOPL @ North Syracuse Library at 458-6184. The library is located at 100 Trolley Barn Lane, North Syracuse.
“Muslim Journeys” is made possible through a grant from the New York State Council for the Humanities.
